"A number of energy records were broken in Texas during a cold snap last week, with solar and batteries playing increasingly important roles.

On Thursday, cold temperatures were widespread across the state, below freezing in both Austin and Houston. Electric heating in the morning drove demand to new records - the first time ERCOT has ever served 80 GW in the winter. Net load exceeded last summer's record, nearly hitting 71 GW.

And batteries helped to meet this demand peak, discharging at a new record of 4.6 GW. "
